About "Квартал"

KVARTAL is a unique example of a band that has always stayed on the top of popularity without being a non-mass project. Formed at the dawn of Perestroika, KVARTAL became the first herald of upcoming western tendencies, managing to develop its own style and sound. From the first show in 1987 the band continued staying ahead of the latest trends and technologies, fusing them with their own vision.

KVARTAL was the first Russian avant-lounge project combining magnificent lyrics, moving rhythms, impressive live performance, original arrangement and, for all it matters, the enchanting sensual voice of Tanya Litvinenko. Subtle and passionate jazz harmonies went perfectly well with ethno-tunes, classic rock-riffs – with horns and percussion.

Azure tropic sunset mirages, caressing breakers, breezes and coral riffs – these are the images KVARTAL’s music draws. The band has given Russian people something that was so hard to find back in the Soviet times– dreams about exotic places, magic, beauty and escape from everyday life. KVARTAL have released eight LPs – perfect in every detail – from the sound quality to the incredible feeling of style.

KVARTAL has also been one of the very few Russian bands that received recognition outside of the country. The debut album was immediately followed by an international tour. Ever since then, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Asia and even Africa have been applauding KVARTAL.

After the death of its founder, leader and composer – Arthur Pilyavin – in 2002, the band faced emptiness hard to fill. However, KVARTAL are currently recording a new album to commemorate the one whose talent and life itself has been a guiding light for many musicians.
